The application site extends to 1,846m² and was formerly part of Fordelhill Farm, which previously included various outbuildings. The original farmhouse remains but is outwith the application site.
The overall proportions and composition of the building are informed by traditional rural structures, ensuring that the design sits comfortably within its setting.
The southern gable will be clad in coursed squared rubble sandstone, and the use of vertical timber cladding across the main elevation also creates a strong connection with both the original farmhouse and an under-construction bothy on the wider site.
Inline PV panels are to be recessed within the roof plane to better blend with the natural slate finish, maintaining the traditional roof aesthetic while incorporating sustainable energy generation.
Large glazed elements, particularly along the south-facing elevation contribute significantly to passive solar gain and natural daylighting — improving the building’s energy performance and reducing dependence on mechanical heating and lighting systems.
The building is sensitive to its historic surroundings while also being reflective of modern construction standards, sustainability, and living quality.
