Samuel Hinchliffe

Associate, MArch, RIAS

Sam is a Chartered Architect working with Andrew Black Design on a part-time basis. Having previously collaborated with the practice on a number of projects, Sam now supports the team across a diverse range of work, from bespoke domestic alterations and extensions through to complex listed buildings and commercial spaces.

With more than 12 years’ experience spanning a broad range of project types, including residential, recreational and educational developments, Sam brings strong technical knowledge, a detailed understanding of statutory and regulatory processes, and a thoughtful, pragmatic approach to design.

In parallel with his role at the studio, Sam continues to run his own architectural practice, allowing him to remain closely involved with smaller-scale residential and commercial projects. This dual perspective provides a balanced understanding of both design ambition and the practical realities of project delivery, client relationships and construction.

Outside of practice, Sam is currently Vice President of the Dundee Institute of Architects, where he is actively involved in supporting the local architectural community and promoting design engagement across the region. Away from architecture, he enjoys hands-on renovation and DIY projects and is rarely short of a new challenge or idea to pursue.
