Former Bank of Scotland, Falkland
We have secured planning approval for internal and external alterations to a category B listed former bank on Falkland High Street, located within the Falkland Conservation Area.
Dating from c.1845, the building will be carefully adapted to bring the vacant ground floor back into use as offices with a small retail space for Saltire Rare Malt Whisky.
The building has many features that will be sensitively refurbished and retained, including timber panelling, shutters, decorative mouldings and a built-in safe. A highlight will see the bank’s vault transformed into a dramatic bottle storage and display room with glass shelving and feature lighting.
Elsewhere, new partitions and bespoke cabinetry will reconfigure the space, including a new office with modern timber wall linings.
Alongside internal works, external fabric repairs will ensure the long-term preservation of this historic building.
The proposals introduce contemporary elements while respecting the character of this 19th-century building – demonstrating how careful conservation can bring heritage buildings back into active use.
