Locarno Works Battery Energy Storage System

We are delighted to receive planning approval at committee for a major planning application to develop a Battery Energy Storage System at a disused former factory site within Dundee’s Blackness Conservation Area.

Utilising our experience in sustainable development and specialist industrial projects, we have worked with Torridon Developments Ltd on plans to bring a historic building back into use, supporting both the regeneration of the area and the decarbonisation of the energy sector.

Locarno Works at Brown Street, Dundee is to be developed to house a Battery Energy Storage System providing electricity storage of up to 39.9MW, helping utilities to balance the national grid.

Battery Energy Storage Systems can store electricity during periods of excess production and low demand and release stored electricity in periods of peak demand. They play a key role in facilitating the UK’s energy transition from fossil fuel power generation to renewables.
